Leublora Green School

Starting as a dream in 2014, today the Leublora Green School is the signature project of LGV and the only environmental education facility in the country dedicated to promoting sustainable development. While it is not yet a fully accredited school, it leads courses and initiatives free of charge for all Timorese, especially children and youth.

LGS aims to build leaders, promote sustainable agriculture and inculcate the value of respect for all life. Because of its positive results, with 400 children reached in the first year alone, the LGS model is sought to be replicated across 12 districts of Timor-Leste.

WHY GREEN SCHOOL?

Nature nurtures. Environmental education can heal entrenched wounds, such as those left behind by Timor-Leste’s decades of conflict. Nature was the only way for LGV’s co-founder, Bella, to embark on her healing journey. Now she wants to support others to find their own healing, whether it be nature or other ways.

By enabling an engagement with nature, LGS teaches how to nurture and sets Timorese on a path to rebuild not only their country, but themselves. The potential impact of LGS is powerful, especially at a time when an innovative approach to learning and development can illuminate Timor-Leste’s path forward to a bright futur

LEBLORA GREEN SCHOOL’S VISION

To support Timor-Leste’s transformation by enhancing its people’s capacity to nurture, protect and promote its natural heritage.

OUR ACTIVITIES

LGS activities provide participants with: (a) practical skills to engage with those around them and their natural environment in a positive way; (b) knowledge to lead their country in an ethically and environmentally responsible manner; and, (c) wisdom to understand the importance of respectful human resource and environmental management to the future of Timor-Leste and the world.

OUR PROGRAMS

LGS has three types of programs. All provide practical skills and promote experiential learning in: sustainable development, organic farming, renewable/solar energy, environmental conservation and recycling. LGS also leads nature-based outdoor activities in Maubisse.

LGV is currently exploring partnerships with the Timorese government to implement the LGS model across the country.

Our programs include:

Green Weekend (2-day program)
Green Camp (3-day overnight program)
Green Tours (international/national study tours)

OTHER ACTIVITIES

In order to complement its three main programmes, LGS, with the support of local partners and volunteers, also leads other activities.

LGS, having established itself as an important organization that unites the Maubisse community, also hosts and coordinates community meetings, classes and projects that bring the local people together to promote environmental activities and sustainable development initiatives.

These activities include media training, workshops, and weekend English classes.

LOCATION

LGS has been established on 46,000 square meters of hilly forest land in a tourist area of Timor-Leste, Maubisse. The Green School is located just two hours by road from the capital, Dili. To ensure experiential learning, the campus includes an organic farm, botanical garden and a children’s playground.
